Since 18 years the European Waterpark Association, European’s association of quality for indoor and outdoor waterparks, awards innovative concepts in waterpark design and marketing campaigns for waterparks. In 2019, the jury, consisting of honorary president Dr Michael Quell, spokeswoman for the Advisory Board of Sponsoring Members Kim Adam and State Councilor Markus Achleitner, has decided to award an EWA Professional Award and two EWA Marketing Awards. This acknowledges the high quality of the contributions.
The EWA Professional Award 2019 goes to Spreewelten Lübbenau for the relaunch of their facility and the extension of a resort.
The EWA Marketing Award 2019 will be awarded to the Therme Wien for the campaign “Summer in the Therme Wien” and to the Freizeitbad düb in Dülmen.
The Spreewelten in Lübbenau, after their expansion of their sauna landscape, which was thematized as Spreewald-Village, relaunched the indoor and outdoor waterpark. The “Waterpark with the Penguins” has almost doubled the existing plant for Humboldt penguins, as well as the outdoor pool for the guests, in which they can swim with the penguins (separated by a bulletproof glass pane).
With great attention to detail, the story of a group of Humboldt penguins is told, which set off in Tierra del Fuego to discover the world. In the German Spreewald area they have found a new home.
The entire indoor and outdoor area of the waterpark was designed and expanded to suit the theme. The relaunch was successfully completed in November 2018. In March 2019, the new Spreewelten Resort opened, which was connected to the spa via “bathrobe corridor”. The resort is designed as a Spreewald-typical country house.
The Therme Wien has succeeded in being honored with an EWA Marketing Award again after 2018, this year for the “Summer in the Therme Wien” campaign. The jury praised the original implementation of the theme – among other things, in a humorous film, three “bathers” desperately search for a refreshment in stations such as the River Wien, which runs through the capital of the same name, and the baroque fountain in front of the Karlskirche. Finally. they find the desired rest and relaxation in the Therme Wien. In addition, the jury members rated the preparation, implementation and follow-up of the campaign as perfect.
Dülmen’s waterpark düb faced the challenge of arousing guests’ interest in renewal during a lengthy renovation phase of the waterpark and securing customer loyalty beyond the time of closure. With a marketing mix of classic forms of advertising, social media campaigns and events on the construction site, düb managed to keep in conversation. Among other things, “construction site kids” in films have become “ambassadors” for the new düb, which will be launched at the end of 2019.
The award ceremony takes place on the occasion of a reception of the EWA at the “Aquanale” trade fair in Cologne. On November 7, EWA President Markus Achleitner will hand over the awards to the winners at the special exhibition “96°” of the EWA in Hall 7, both B 014 at 4.30 pm. The laudatory speech will be held by Dr Michael Quell and Kim Adam.
