EWA Benchmarking for the financial year 2018

The members of the European Waterpark Association invested up to 13 million euros in the 2018 financial year to maintain and make their facilities more attractive. This confirms the trend in the waterpark and spa industry to invest in sustainable operation of the waterparks and securing their market position.

In terms of cost recovery, waterparks and thermal spas continue to be the most economical form of public pools. An average cost recovery ratio of 80% was determined for the operating result (73% with interest and depreciation). This is significantly higher than the cost recovery ratio of conventional indoor pools or combinations of indoor and outdoor pools.

On average, 325,000 guests visited each waterpark in 2018.

The detailed evaluation will be made available exclusively to the waterparks participating in the benchmark.
